TDA: McFadden, East Clinton impressive

As you all know by now, I called East Clinton's football team my "sleeper" pick to win the SBC's National Division.

After week 5, you can just call them "favorite."

While Goshen certainly didn't play their best football, much of the credit for EC's 47-24 victory goes to what the Astros did right, not to what the Warriors did wrong.

And it starts with Steve McFadden. He was nearly unstoppable. When you thought you had him stopped, he breaks loose for a long touchdown run. He's the real deal, and there are more big games from him to come before this season is over. Add in a kickoff return return by a freshman tailback and it was the formula for victory for the Astros.

So one more prediction from me - East Clinton wins the SBC National Division. They score 40 or more points in at least two of the three division games. Steve McFadden is the MVP of the season. However, 6-4 will not be good enough to get them into the playoffs. They'd have to beat New Richmond (at home, though) to get in at 7-3. They're good, but I'm not willing to go that far yet.

For Goshen fans - all hope is not lost thanks to the new SBC league standings system this year. Goshen is still 1-0 in the division, and it gets the division's leaders (Western Brown and New Richmond) both at home. It will certainly take a more complete effort for Goshen to win both of those games. But one thing I know as certainly as EC winning the division this year is that you NEVER bet against a Nick Inabnitt coached team. He'll have his boys ready.

For those who would like to see videos from the game ... we have them on Youtube once again. This time, they're mostly EC-oriented. There is one pro-Goshen video. It is a Goshen onside kick attempt that ends with a EC player getting plowed to the ground. You can find that here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mhcrja5mC3U.

The other videos are EC flavored ... so Goshen fans might steer clear. EC's 90-yard touchdown return by Austin Miller: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnOTKEt3ims. Also, McFadden stays alive and runs 45 yards for his fifth touchdown of the night: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CGMEwSQAyc. Videos are likely going to be on hiatus this week ... my brother Mike will be on assignment this Friday night.

In other news this week:
  • I still feel like Blanchester will get back close to .500 this season. 4-6 probably. But it won't be easy. Hillsboro is 1-4, but they are down as well. The game is at Richards Memorial Stadium in Hillsboro. After that is Homecoming against Williamsburg. So in the next two weeks, Blanchester will pick up at least one, if not two victories. If they don't ...
  • I am most certainly pulling for Little Miami to upset the establishment in the FAVC Cardinal Division and beat out Kings and Turpin for the division title. It certainly won't be easy ... but here's hoping the right arm of Kyle Cook can get the Panthers into the playoffs. Heck, if they do get to week 11 ... maybe we'll cover it here.
  • Anybody want to pick a favorite in the FAVC Buckeye Division? Anderson, Winton Woods, Milford, Harrison and Loveland are all 4-1 after five games. And Glen Este, at 2-3, is also very good and has lost to good teams. I'll take Anderson in the division ... but that should be fun to follow the rest of the season.
  • How good is New Richmond? Well, we may not know for a couple of weeks. Look for them to continue their dominance this week against Batavia. In five games, they've outscored opponents 214-6. That is 42.8 points per game for, and 1.2 points per game against. That "D" isn't too bad, is it?

Should be another interesting Friday night. We'll have all the coverage for you on the KOR. Thanks for continuing to make us the "go-to" place on Friday night and Saturday mornings for high school football scores.
