TDA: A long week for all of us

I had planned to update this blog Sunday, after watching the Bengals lose again.

Then the power went out.

For some of our readers, the power still hasn't returned. Some will not have power for another week. We are one of the lucky ones that have power right now. I find it hard to believe that any of us will take that luxury for granted again anytime soon.

So instead of reliving what was a terrible week for most, let's go back and talk HS football. Goshen defeated Blanchester 28-7 to win the "King of the Road" trophy for the second year in a row.

My thoughts from this week's game:
  • Goshen's offense looks a little better every week. They debuted a new dynamic this week with Jaimie Ashcraft at QB at times with Nate Perriman split out at receiver. It will certainly give teams more things to worry about when preparing to take on the Warriors.
  • As much as Goshen's offense continues to improve. the defense is improving even faster. They were very stingy against Blanchester's offense. Only a fake field goal TD pass stood between Goshen and a shutout.
  • Blanchester ... 0-4. It just doesn't look right. This is the time that the coaches at BHS will find out what their players are made of. It's easy to go in and bust your butt when you are 4-0. Those willing to do it when you are 0-4 are the kids you want to go to battle with on Friday nights. I still think Blanchester's season will begin to turn around Friday night. My guess is that 5-5 is still very realistic for BHS.
  • As for Goshen ... things don't get easier the next two weeks. Although both games are at home, East Clinton and Western Brown in back-to-back weeks is a tough task. I still like EC as my sleeper pick to win the National Division. Goshen will certainly get all it wants from EC this Friday night.
  • I'm not sure what is more amusing ... the fact I was right about NR scoring 60 against Williamsburg (62), or that it was that same Williamsburg team that ended New Richmond's scoreless streak for the season (6). NR is going to be tough to beat. Goshen does get them at home, which will help.

Other thoughts from a weekend of football:

  • Michigan and Ohio State didn't do the Big 10 any favors this weekend. Ugh. Why couldn't my power have gone out around 3:30 on Saturday?
  • UC had the bye ... now getting ready for Miami and the battle for the Victory Bell this weekend with Tony Pike at QB. I think people will look back in a few weeks and think that OU loss wasn't so bad after all.

A few other items of note:

  • My brother Mike shot some videos on our digital camera of this week's game, which I've synced with our game audio. You can download those from our main site (radiokor.com) or you can watch them on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YCKebXH_yY and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3AniGmhvu4
  • If you have any damage pics from the storm over the weekend, send them to us at radio@radiokor.com and we'll try to get the best of them posted on our website.
  • Also - if you are in an area that still doesn't have electricity, don't forget your elderly neighbors. Make sure you check on them and help them out in this time of need.

One final note of self promotion ... the Blan girls tennis team (of which I'm head coach) won a share of the SBC National Division title tonight with a 3-2 win over Batavia. All the credit to the girls, who are awesome. I'm so proud of them. We can win the division outright if we can beat Felicity next Tuesday.

That's all ... join us Friday night at 7:20 (if you have power) for EC-Goshen on the KOR.
